Saas-Fee

Saas-Fee sits at 1,800 metres, enclosed by eighteen four-thousand-metre peaks that form a horseshoe around the village, from the Fletschhorn to the Dufourspitze. The village is car-free: you park in the garage on the edge, drop your luggage at the terminal, and walk or take an electric taxi. From Ried-Brig it takes about forty minutes via Visp and Stalden.

The Saas-Fee ski area itself has a hundred kilometres of piste; add Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell and it comes to a hundred and fifty, between 1,500 and 3,600 metres. The Metro Alpin is the showpiece: the highest underground funicular in the world, boring up through the mountain from Felskinn at 3,000 metres to Mittelallalin at 3,500 metres. Up there, the world's highest revolving restaurant turns once an hour, with the glacier beneath you as you eat. There's also the Morenia fun park, three toboggan runs, Kreuzboden at eleven kilometres, Hannig at six, Furggstalden at three, plus winter walking, snowshoeing, ice climbing and even a via ferrata in winter.

Saas-Fee is one of the few places in the Alps where you can genuinely ski in summer. The Allalin and Fee glaciers have twenty kilometres of piste where international ski teams come to train. In 2026 the Metro Alpin runs from 20 June to 31 October and the Alpin Express from 18 July to 31 October, daily from seven until four.

For summer without skis: 350 kilometres of walking trails, mountain bike routes, climbing, padel, beach volleyball and golf. The Feeblitz toboggan run reaches forty kilometres an hour and has the steepest sledge lift in the Alps; in 2026 it's open from 20 June to 25 October, CHF 7.50 for adults. At Spielboden the marmots sit so close to the path that children can almost touch them, and from Längfluh, at 2,868 metres, guided glacier walks set off for Panorama Point. On the Hannig there's a fairy-tale trail, and recently you can take a virtual flight over the glacier landscape at Mittelallalin with VirtuAllalin.
