Getting there

How to reach us — by car or train.

Ried-Brig is surprisingly central: on the north side of the Simplon Pass, ten minutes above Brig. Milan is about two hours' drive, Bern about an hour and a half.

🚗 By car

Milan ± 2 h Bern ± 1.5 h

From the north you drive via Bern and the Lötschberg car shuttle into Valais; from Italy the Simplon route passes right by Ried-Brig. The final kilometres are well-surfaced mountain roads — at the chalet you park for free on our own grounds.

From Italy: the Simplon route (E62) runs from Domodossola over the pass straight to Brig — Ried-Brig sits on this route.
From Bern/Basel: the Lötschberg car shuttle from Kandersteg to Goppenstein — drive onto the train and you're in Valais 15 minutes later.
In winter: winter tyres are essential; snow chains on board recommended. The road to Ried-Brig is well cleared.

Milan ± 2 h Bern ± 70 min

Brig is an international stop: through the Simplon tunnel you ride directly to Italy, and via the Lötschberg base tunnel you're in Bern in just over an hour. From the station, the bus (or a short taxi ride) gets you to Ried-Brig in about ten minutes.

Arrival & departure

From what time can I check in?

You're welcome from 4 pm. Arriving earlier? Let us know — if the apartment is ready you can often get in sooner, and otherwise you can drop off your luggage.

What time do I need to check out?

On departure day we ask you to leave the apartment by 10 am so we can prepare everything for the next guests. A later check-out is sometimes possible by arrangement.

Where can I park?

The chalet has a free private parking space right next to the house. No searching — and your luggage is inside in one trip.

How does the key handover work?

Before arrival you'll receive all instructions via WhatsApp or email. We live in the chalet ourselves, so we usually welcome you in person.

In the apartment

How many people can I bring?

The apartment sleeps a maximum of 4 guests: two bedrooms each with a double bed, plus your own kitchen, living room and bathroom. A cot is available free on request.

Is smoking allowed?

No, the apartment is completely non-smoking. You can smoke outside — with mountain views, that's no punishment.

Are pets welcome?

Pets are possible by arrangement. Send us a quick message in advance about who you're bringing and we'll see what works.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, fast Wi-Fi is free throughout the apartment. Working remotely with a view of the Glishorn works just fine.

Costs & formalities

How does the tourist tax work?

The municipality of Ried-Brig levies a tourist tax per person per night. It's not included in the rate and is settled with us locally.

Do I get a guest card?

Yes, as an overnight guest you receive the Brig-Simplon region guest card — with discounts on mountain railways, the Brigerbad thermal baths and regional public transport.

What's included in the price?

Bed linen, towels and final cleaning are included, as are Wi-Fi, parking and ski storage. Only the tourist tax is extra.

Winter & equipment

Do I need snow chains?

Winter tyres are essential in the winter months; we recommend carrying snow chains in heavy snowfall. The road to Ried-Brig is well cleared, so with winter tyres you'll almost always get through without trouble.

Where do I store skis and gear?

The chalet has a ski room where skis, snowboards and boots stay dry and secure. In summer there's room for bikes and hiking gear.

What if the Simplon Pass is closed?

The Simplon route is a well-maintained main road that's open almost all year. If the pass briefly closes in extreme weather, the car shuttle through the Simplon tunnel (Brig–Iselle) runs as an alternative.
