Bellwald
A sun terrace above the Goms; in summer, the domain of mountain carts and a bike park.
Official website
Bellwald sits on a terrace at just over 1,560 metres above the entrance to the Goms, the highest village in the valley. You park at the Fürgangen valley station, the cable car, built in 1956, takes about four minutes, since the village centre is car-free. The name already appears in 1273 as Beliwalt, and the hamlet of Bodma is listed in its entirety on the inventory of Swiss heritage sites.
According to the mountain railway's own figures, the ski area has just over thirty-five kilometres of piste between 1,560 and 2,560 metres, split across two chairlifts and two ski lifts; independent counts come out lower, so expect a compact but varied area. The season runs from mid-December to late March. For children there's the Snow & Bike School with the Kids Hasenland from age four.
Tobogganing is particularly well organised here. The 3.4-kilometre run starts at the Fleschen mid-station and is open daily from noon to four, after which the lights come on for free night sledging until eight in the evening. Sledge hire costs CHF 20 a day. Cross-country skiers take the trail to Niederwald and join the Goms trail network from there, good for a hundred kilometres.
Summer here is about two things: suspension bridges and bikes. The Goms Bridge is 280 metres long, has linked Fürgangen with Mühlebach since 2015, stays open all year and is even wheelchair accessible. The Aspi-Titter bridge spans 160 metres and hangs 120 metres above the Weisswasser gorge, open from 1 July to 31 October. In 2026 Bike Park Bellwald has seven trails plus a free pump track and runs from May to October. Walkers choose the Seven Lakes route past the Wirbulsee, Lengsee and Spilsee, or start here on the Stoneman Glaciara: 65 kilometres and 3,150 metres of climbing along the ridge towards the Eggishorn and Bettmerhorn.
