Furka Steam Railway

In summer, the Dampfbahn Furka-Bergstrecke runs along eighteen kilometres of historic narrow-gauge line from Oberwald to Realp, straight across the Furka. The locomotives are more than a hundred years old and are maintained and stoked by volunteers. The line climbs above two thousand metres, with rack-and-pinion sections on the steepest stretches. Along the way you get views of the Rhône Glacier. Tickets need to be booked well in advance, as the number of trips is limited.
