Simplon Pass
Stockalperweg
The Stockalperweg is the old mule track along which Kaspar Stockalper had salt and goods carried from Italy to the north in the seventeenth century. The section near the top of the pass measures 9.26 kilometres with 525 metres of ascent and takes around two and a half hours. Along the way you pass the Simplon Hospice and old waymarkers that have stood there for centuries. The path is well signposted and not technical. Those wanting to walk the whole route can continue it in stages all the way to Gondo.
