Cross-country skiing on the Simplon Pass

A trail of around 1.8 kilometres runs from the Spittelmatte past the Barralhaus to the old hospice, with separate tracks for classic and skating style. A day pass costs CHF 5, a season pass CHF 50, making it one of the cheapest ways to try cross-country skiing. At nearly two thousand metres the snow is reliable and the air clear. The trail is flat and short, making it excellent for beginners. Equipment can be hired in Brig.
