Gondo Gorge and Fort Gondo

On the south side of the pass, the Gondo Gorge cuts deep into the rock, with the road running partly through tunnels and across galleries. In the village of Gondo lies a Second World War infantry fort, whose 350-metre connecting tunnel now forms part of the Stockalperweg. On Saturdays from June to October there are ninety-minute guided tours for CHF 10, paid in cash and conducted in German. The drive there is worth it on its own. Italy lies just across the border, with coffee to match.
