Simplon Ecomuseum and observatory

In Simplon Dorf, ten minutes past the top of the pass, the old inn has been converted into an Ecomuseum about life along the pass route. You see how the mule trade worked, how the community got through winters, and what building the Simplon road, and later the tunnel, changed. In the same village stands the observatory of the Oberwallis astronomical society, where observations are held on clear evenings. At this altitude and with so little light pollution, the night sky is exceptional. Both are small-scale and pleasantly unhurried.
