Saturday market on the Stadtplatz

Every Saturday morning from eight until noon, the Stadtplatz fills with stalls selling local vegetables, fruit, meat, cheese and bread. It's a genuine local shopping market rather than a tourist one, so quality is high and prices are fair. Valais rye bread, dried meat and mountain cheese are the things you buy here and miss once home. Cafés around the market let you take it all in over a coffee. For guests arriving on a Saturday, this is the handiest first stop of the week.
